Ponferrada

We got up this morning to get an early departure to get to the Cruz de Ferro.  The morning was very cold. The pipes froze in the albergue so there was no running water. We were treated to a hot cup of coffee by Jorge who had some water on hand. He also showed us where to refill our water from the well.

Up the hill we climbed to wonderful sunrise.  Shortly after we arrived at the cross and dropped our “stones” as is the tradition. This is a cleansing ritual to leave behind some pain, hurt or other burden.

It took some time for the day to warm up. As you can see in one of the photos, our water supply froze up completely.

Spectacular views were seen all day. We stopped late on the route for some soup and a cerveza.

I took a picture of a bike similar to one dad had when I was young. Only the child seat San over the front of the handlebars.

We had a good dinner and turned in for the night.
