Camino Day 22 – El Burgo Ranero

After a restful nights sleep and a light breakfast, I headed on to the town of El Burgo Ranero. The walk was about 5 hours.

On the way out of town I spied this fisherman under this picturesque bridge. I paused to breathe the fresh air and enjoy the view.

I left town passing by a local hospital and following a nice crushed gravel trail that would lead onward for miles.

Camino day 22

I took a short break at this 14th century church. I find it amazing how many churches there are along the way. Even the smallest of towns will have more than one.

The giant granite style park benches can be found at various rest stop in these parts .  It feels like I should be riding up by horse and laying down sword and shield before sitting at this “park bench”.

I get to thinking about life and death during this period of Lent. Along the way, my eye caught the first sighting of a dandelion. It looked so bright and vulnerable in the middle of this rocky, well treaded path. I just had to capture the moment. Shortly thereafter, I found yet another marker of a fallen pilgrim.  Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

A few random building shots taken along the way.  This area feels more like a Texas border town. I arrived feeling hot and checked in to a pilgrims hostel with my own room. After checking in, I went downstairs to for lunch before taking another siesta.

Such is life for this pilgrim. Henry Nouwen suggests clawing your blessings in the cultivation of presence. Slow down to find your daily blessings. It can be as simple as a a single dandelion standing tall in the sun.
