Walked 17 miles in a cold rain today to the town of Ages. I Saw only 8 pilgrims during the walk. Perhaps they all chose to sleep in given the weather.
I wore long johns, hat, and gloves to stay warm. Mid way through the walk I rested for a half hour with gratitude for a roofed shelter to avoid the rain while I ate a sandwich. I looked out over a hilltop in peace. This gave me the energy to power through the rest of the walk.
The walk through the woods was very damp as you will see in the photo collage of the day. There weren’t many resting point on the walk.
The “oasis” I found was funny as it was a soupy mess in the month of March. Nonetheless the carved smiling faces made me laugh.
Toward the end of the route as I was about to descend on Ages, I was greeting by a few dozen cows that looked and sounded more like bulls. As the wind whipped my blue rain poncho I was surely attracting their attention. I was happy as my poncho was blue rather than red. I feared that the flimsy wire fence would not hold back these bulls should they want a closer look at me. I had visuals of Pamplona’s running of the bulls going through my head.
Upon reaching Ages, I enjoyed eating a wonderful home cooked lunch in a cozy restaurant. The couple could give me enough food or serve enough wine.
I back tracked a hundred steps to to the albergue where I relaxed and did laundry. I was the only pilgrim to check in for the night so I had the place to myself.
