Santiago de Compostela

Today is the last walking day of the Camino. With Ann’s Tuesday arrival into Santiago combined with my sister-in-law’s desire to slow the pace of her walk, I decide to walk into town a day earlier than planned.

The probability of rain is between 60-100% depending on forecast model. It rained a good portion of the night so the ground is very wet. However, the morning brought no rain. With sun in the sky and just a few miles to go I walk lightheartedly. I take this as a sign I am clear for landing.

The countdown for the day began at 30 KM. I photographed the KM countdown throughout the day wanting the walk to both last and end.

Unlike running a marathon there aren’t many spectators along the way. However, I did have one dog rooting me into town. I think this is a sign I am to get a dog when I return home.  😁

I was greeted by my biggest fan coming down the city steps at the cathedral. I was grinning ear to ear as Ann was waving me in! I had arrived.

Shortly after I walked into the church through the holy door. I visited the tomb and took in pilgrim’s mass the following day as I missed it today.

I obtained my Compostela and distance certificate from the pilgrim’s office to commemorate the walk.  Again, I am grinning ear to ear.

We connected with some old faces over wine and  dinner we shared some Camino memories. Afterwards, we took in one of the evening float processions.  There will be one to four of these processions each day during Holy Week.

I read my Lenten book from Nouwen. I’ve passed out almost all of my Camino coins in exchange for an understanding of why individuals are doing the Camino. I’ve prayed the rosary many times. Now it’s time for Semana Santa or “Holy Week” in Santiago.

Off to bed to rest before celebrating the end of the Lenten season here in Spain.

God Bless.
