Camino Day 15 & 16 – In Burgos

The weekend spent in Burgos was sunnier and a touch warmer.

I started Saturday with a cup of coffee and a pastry. I walked around town until noon where I attended mass at the church of San Nicolas de Bari.

This early-15th-century church is right next to the
Camino de Santiogo. The marquee attraction inside is the altarpiece, held as one of the masterpieces of Castilian-renaissance art. It takes a good ten minutes to take in every little detail of its carvings as you will see in the video.

After mass I climbed the hill to the old castle. I took the opportunity to walk the grounds and get a birds eye view of the city.

I wandered the city in search of a dessert and found some chocolate cake and a glass of red wine or tinto.

After a siesta with the rest of the town I joined Jim and Kim for a nice dinner out amongst the bustle of a Spanish Saturday evening.

The next day after a couple cups of coffe and pastries, I toured the Burgos cathedral. Simply amazing. After a two hour tour I pondered my next move. I found the “call” and felt compelled to attend mass again. This time inside a side chapel of the Burgos cathedral. It was a full house complete with childrens choir, 5 priests and plenty of incense.  Amazing!

After, I found a restaurant at the foot of the cathedral where I had paella and a little cerveza. Again after…another siesta to prep the body for the coming week’s walk.

Buen Camino.
